Conference location: Chía, Colombia. 20 Km north of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia.  Chía, indigenous name for “moon”, is a town located in the Sabana high plain at 2600 meters above sea level (8660 feet above sea level). The average temperatures year-round range between 5 °C (46 °F) and 20 °C (68 °F). The population is around 160,000 inhabitants.

Moving around:

Frequent buses, taxis, Uber, Didi connect Bogotá and Chía. A taxi ride to/from northern Bogotá costs USD 30- 40 depending on traffic and time of the day. A taxi ride from the airport to Chía can cost around USD 45-50. A long-distance bus to Chía from the northern bus terminal costs less than USD 2. A local taxi ride in Chía costs less than USD 7; a local bus ride is less than USD 1. Car rentals are widely available (but not recommended) at the airport and in downtown locations in Bogotá. Major car rental companies have branches inside the airport premises.

Chía and other nearby towns offer a choice of accommodations ranging from hostels and budget apartments to 5-star hotels. There are also countless options in Bogotá.

Entertainment and tourism

The Chía and Sabana Centro areas are known for their beauty and wide range of entertainment options. The area has plenty of restaurants, clubs, cafés (don’t forget to taste the excellent Colombian coffee), bars and shopping malls. The colonial downtowns of Chía and of the other nearby towns are beautiful and worth visiting. The area has also many places of historical, religious and natural interest such as the Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral, the Guatavita lake, the Nemocón salt mine, the El Común bridge, and La Valvanera chapel.
