The Resource Center for Foreign Language Learning of the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Studium, a unit attached to the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures, offers the university community the means and tools for autonomous learning in various foreign languages (English, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, and Spanish for foreigners).

To this end, the Center has computer equipment, audiovisual and reference materials, including: videos and CDs to strengthen oral comprehension skills; DVDs in different languages to practice the language chosen by the student; books for international exam preparation; journals that help developing reading comprehension skills and strengthen foreign language skills.

Equipment and work centers

Studium has 14 modern work centers for the exclusive use of students in which 84 computers with multimedia, headphones and microphones are available, equipped with sound and video cards. These teams have specialized software for learning foreign languages, such as Tell Me More (platform for learning English, French, German and Spanish as a foreign language); Macmillan English Campus (English practice platform); and interactive programs to prepare for official international exams such as TOEFL, IELTS and FCE. Additionally, there are 30 tablets (iPad) and 30 audience-voting devices for interactive classroom support. The center also has an IP / TV digital video transmission system - Live Unisabana - Streaming (video repository organized and categorized as a library, with service for virtual classes and live image and sound transmission) and with a modern center development of digital learning objects, equipped with 2 audio and video editing equipment and one graphic for design; and 4 teams intended to the administration, support and advice of the users of the center.

STUDIUM Satellite Library

Studium has a total of 3,241 books cataloged in its collection. The Satellite Library has an online catalog that includes specialized material for learning and teaching foreign languages. We have approximately 6681 copies, 1813 CDs and 311 videos, which include: integrated courses that provide adequate material for each level of learning and preparation in all language skills. These collections consist of books for the student, guides for the teacher - which include answers to the exercises in the student's book -, workbooks and audio material. Also, there are texts that support the development of each of the language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. They are part of the collection, dictionaries and various reference material that were integrated as a Satellite Library allowing students and teachers to access all available electronic resources and databases.

Design, production and support of the Virtual and Blended Learning strategy

Given the methodologies established in the undergraduate and postgraduate subjects of the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Studium advises and supports teachers for the design and implementation of classes and the use of learning resources for courses in virtual modality and Blended Learning. The purposes of this consulting service is for teachers to strengthen the use of technologies that favor the fulfillment of the learning objectives set in their subjects and that benefit synchronous and asynchronous interaction in innovative learning environments and mediated by a Learning Management System (VirtualSabana) and a videoconferencing tool (Blackboard Collaborate).
